In a bus, Sofia was just arriving to the city for a tour of New York! It was not very long after that, when she and all the kids on the bus with her found themselves parked just in front of the hotel, about to go in. So of course they did. Sofia met her roommate Laura at the elevators, and they went up to their room together. They unpacked their belongings and were all ready for dinner, so they went out into the hallway to find their way back to the elevators. But the elevators were nowhere to be found! No problem, they thought – they would simply take the stairs. The possibility of being late, as well as needing to go down six flights of stairs before they reached their destination, had them running in a minute. “At least it’s easier to run down the stairs than up,” were Sofia’s famous last words. At last, they reached the bottom floor! Hot and out of breath, Sofia reached out and began to turn the door handle… but it didn’t turn. She rattled the door, yanking it back and forth, then slowly turned her head toward Laura to see her reaction. “It’s locked!” They blurted out in unison. Thinking they might have gone a floor too low, they tried the door on the one above. Also locked! A bit painfully conscious of what she had just said, Sofia followed Laura in running all the way back UP the six flights of stairs. At last, they made it to an unlocked door. Frantically and a bit hysterically, they searched and found the elevators. At this point, they were both laughing – they had just done the dumbest thing they possibly could’ve; get lost on the stairs. “Sofi,” said Laura. “This trip is off to a great start.”
